Point of Care Ultrasound Education

Who we are:

Critcareecho.com is a Free Open Access Medical education (FOAMed) site. It is dedicated to ultrasound education for the Critical Care Physician. We hope this will become the ultrasound education resource you turn to.

The following pages have been developed by Emergency Physicians working at Alfred Health in Melbourne. As a result, some of the information presented may have a peculiarly Australian slant to it, but the vast majority will be applicable no matter where you practice.

Why:

Ultrasound continues to gain importance as a decision tool at the bedside. It is no longer purely the domain of diagnostic imaging specialists such as Radiologists, but is increasingly used by physicians at point of care to make treatment decisions and to guide procedures. Ultrasound education for Emergency practitioners in Australia has lagged behind the USA and UK. As a group of enthusiasts, we want to see this change. This site started as a resource for our Emergency Medicine trainees, but we hope that it will be relevant to residents, registrars and specialists from many medical specialties.

What:

Key topics covered on this site include Ultrasound Physics, Basic knobology, EFAST, Echo in life support and Procedural Ultrasound. Additional modules will be added as they are developed.
